CUSTOM (BISAYA)

In Malaysia, there were many culture and and native people such as malayu, chinese, indian, khadazan and so on. One of the culture that we want to tell is Bisaya people. Bisaya is one of many other native people in Malaysia. Bisaya comes from Borneo, Malaysia. Most of them are Christian and some of them chose Islam as their way of life. I have a friends at Beaufort who are Bisayan that is Islam. In my campus at UPM Campus Bintulu aslo have this Bisayan people who is Christian and she is my senior. What can I conclude is nowdays, there are Islam Bisaya and also Christian Bisaya.Bisaya people of Borneo language is most related to Bahasa Malaysia.

Other than that, not only malayu, chinese and indian have their own celebration. Bisaya people also have their own celebration. Their main festivals called Babulang . The festival showcases various music, songs, and dances. They display colourful traditional costume, decoration and handicraft. Their traditional musical instrument consists of kulintangan and gong. They also used this instrument in the wedding ceremony. Babulang festival also have competition such as Water buffalo races which can only be found in this town in Sarawak. Unfortunately, me and my friends here at UPMKB are mostly never seen this festival. We just only know by hearing others people telling this festival.

As I know, Bisaya people were skilled in agriculture such as paddy planting, ginger and so on. They also good in hunting animals in the forest and feeding animal such as buffalo and cow. They also skilled in catching fish. They also good in making weapons such as andiban, sumpit parang and keris. There are the picture of traditional house of Bisaya. I don't know is there any Bisaya people still use this traditional house.
